Goals for Video Interviewing
The CO-OP Financial Services team knew their initial interviews were very repeatable. Hiring dozens of new employees every month for their call centers, initial interviews always took a large chunk of the team's time. They knew there had to be a better way to get an initial look at all candidates.
Q&A with Recruiter, Jake McEntee:
What inspired you to look into video interviewing? What specific challenges in your day-to-day were you looking to solve with video interviewing?
We were looking to solve a repeatable action, which was the initial interview. We ask the same 5-6 standard questions in every call. There had to be a simpler way to get these answers. Each candidate translated to a 30 minute initial phone interview for the team and there had to be a software that could help us cut that time down. Also, we hoped it would be able to handle bilingual interviews.
Did Spark Hire replace a similar tool or is this the first time your team is using video interviewing?
This was our first time using a video interviewing tool and it was a very seamless integration with our current ATS.
What criteria did you have in mind for a video interviewing solution?
Since this was our first time using video interviews, the only criteria we had going into exploring our options was knowing we wanted to be able to achieve both one way and live video interviews.

How has Spark Hire improved your hiring metrics and process?
Spark Hire's analytics allow us to see where people fall off in the process. Do they accept the interview and not complete it? Do they accept AND start the interview but not complete it? It has helped us understand where our process could use improvement.
What was your team’s hiring process prior to using Spark Hire?
Before Spark Hire we would simply review the resumes of our applicants. Now, we pair the resume review with a video interview to ensure we have a much clearer picture of what candidates bring to the table. Sometimes a candidate can speak to their experience much better than documenting it down in a resume. We have had candidates tell us how much they like the platform.
How do you get your team members to buy into video interviewing?
It was pretty easy, the tool speaks for itself and has saved the whole team a bunch of time.
What was your aha moment — the moment you knew you loved Spark Hire?
The scheduler tool. It has been a HUGE life saver. We interview thousands and thousands of people every year. The scheduling and phone tag involved can be a long and boring game. Sending out our availability to candidates to find a time that works for them has saved us so much time.
