Goals for Video Interviewing
Spirit Airlines wanted to improve their screening process and speed up the hiring process. They do high-volume hiring for some of their roles and wanted to get a better look at their candidates earlier in the process to better prescreen them.

What inspired you to look into video interviewing?
We needed a simpler and more modern technique to screen candidates quickly for roles we hire for in bulk such as Flight Attendants, Customer Service Agents, and Ramp Agents. Video interviewing allows us to prescreen candidates in a manner which saves us and them time while enhancing the candidate experience.
Did Spark Hire replace a similar tool or is this the first time your team is using video interviewing?
We used to conduct some interviews with Skype, but that still required us to devote time to connecting with candidates. Now, Spark Hire has decreased our need for Skype interviews.
What criteria did you have in mind for a video interviewing solution?
We wanted to have clear ease of use for candidates and recruiters, great customer service, and a high-quality product.
Describe your selection process and what you found most attractive about Spark Hire when signing up.
We were most attracted to three elements of Spark Hire. First was the design of the platform and its ease of use. The ability to use Spark Hire via a computer as well as a phone or tablet with the Spark Hire app also held great appeal for my team. Last, we liked the ability to utilize different forms of interviews like one-way interviews, open interviews, and live interviews.
What was getting started with Spark Hire like?
Easy! We received great support from both the technical and sales teams.
What are some of the results you’ve seen with Spark Hire?
We average sending 150 interview requests monthly for 1 specific role and receive approximately a 50% return response rate, which is great for entry-level positions. Part of the benefit of Spark Hire is those who do not complete their interview would not be high-quality, engaged, employees.
We use Spark Hire as a pre-screening method for bulk hiring roles and during our open house hiring events. Since implementing Spark Hire, we have increased the quality of candidates in attendance at the events and decreased the time spent on in-person interviews.
What was your team’s hiring process prior to using Spark Hire?
We would use a pre-screening assessment test and do in-person interviews for all candidates who applied and passed.
How does video interviewing fit into your hiring process?
We replaced our cumbersome pre-screening assessment with a Spark Hire one-way interview. Our team can then narrow down our applicants to the most qualified candidates to invite to in-person interviews
How do you get your team members to buy in to video interviewing?
It was an easy sell! The team has the ability to watch the candidates’ video interviews at any time, in any place (with the mobile app), and decide on next steps if they are interested.
What is the biggest impact that video interviewing has on your hiring process?
Video interviewing allows us to better prescreen our candidates. This saves the recruiters and candidates both travel and interview time.
What was your aha moment — the moment you knew you loved Spark Hire?
When we realized we could discover our top quality candidates in an incredibly short amount of time.
Why should other airlines look into video interviewing?
With so many entry-level roles, all airlines mass-hire candidates. Spark Hire will allow them to quickly separate the diamond-in-the-rough candidates from those who will quickly turn over.
